Job description.

 

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Integrated Operations , the role of the incumbent will be to oversee the security and protection of all KCC assets, personnel and operations. This role focuses on establishing, maintaining and continuously improving asset protection measures across KCC’s entire operational perimeter, particularly in a high-risk environment such as the DRC. He/she will design and implement strategies aligned with KCC’s compliance, risk management and community relations requirements, while ensuring that KCC’s protection infrastructure supports business continuity. His/her role will uphold the principles of security, transparency and accountability, reflecting KCC’s commitment to safe and responsible mining operations.

He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive list):

 

  • Assess risks and develop strategies . This includes regularly assessing risks, developing strategic asset protection plans, identifying vulnerabilities and creating mitigation strategies to prevent incidents.
  • Manage and develop your team . Lead, train and support the Asset Protection team, with a focus on capacity development and professional growth. Establish a culture of accountability and high performance.
  • R esponse to emergencies . Develop and execute emergency response plans, train asset protection teams, and conduct regular exercises. Ensure systems and personnel are equipped to respond effectively to incidents.
  • Manage Incidents . Respond quickly to incidents, coordinating with relevant teams and external agencies. Conduct investigations, ensure resolution and implement preventative measures.
  • Communicate with Stakeholders . Establish and maintain productive relationships with government authorities, local law enforcement, and community leaders to support KCC operations and mitigate security-related conflicts.
  • Manage policies and compliance . Ensure compliance with safeguarding policies and national laws, working closely with legal and compliance departments. Review and update asset safeguarding protocols as needed.
  • Promote a safety culture . Instill a high level of safety awareness among employees and contractors, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and procedures.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Community Relations . Act as a liaison between KCC, local authorities and the community. Foster trust and clear communication to prevent conflict and strengthen KCC’s social license to operate.
  • Ensure compliance and reporting . Adhere to KCC Code of Conduct, legal requirements and safeguarding policies, ensuring all incidents are documented and investigated in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Organize monitoring and maintain reports . Oversee asset protection systems, including monitoring and access control. Ensure accurate reporting and analysis of security measures to support continuous improvement.
  • Organize effective asset protection operations . Supervise the day-to-day operations of asset protection teams and ensure appropriate training, discipline and performance evaluations.

 

Job requirements .

 

Qualifications and experience.

 

  • Hold a university degree in law, business administration, criminal justice or related field;
  • Demonstrate at least ten (10) years of professional experience in asset protection or security management, preferably in the mining sector or in a high-risk environment, with at least five (5) years of experience in a leadership role .
  • Have certification in security management, VPSHR and other security related fields.
  • Fluency in French and Swahili is an advantage.

 

Technical skills.

 

  • A thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of physical security, electronic surveillance, emergency procedures and risk management.
  • Ability to conduct investigations, collect evidence and analyze information to identify potential threats.
  • Understanding the legal framework applicable to asset protection, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
  • Understanding of international standards such as ISO 28000 and local regulations applicable to security and asset protection.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and train a team of security professionals.
  • Ability to design and deliver training on security and asset protection.
  • Knowledge of video surveillance systems, alarm systems, security management software and emerging security technologies.
