Background :
SoCha, LLC is contracted to provide technical and advisory services to the United States Agency for International Development in the Democratic Republic of Congo (USAID/DRC) on the 5-year Mission Strategic Support Program (MSSP). The purpose of MSSP is to provide the mission with strategy and activity-level performance monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) support in the form of deliverables under its seven contractual objectives. The Collaboration, Learning and Adapting (CLA) objective entails organizing and facilitating events and workshops to support adaptive management by the Mission, capacity building and other forms of collaboration and information sharing.
An important task for the successful delivery of the CLA events is the reporting from the event. The reporting is drawn from the event’s notes, transcriptions, facilitation tools and other related sources and is destined for review and approval by the client. The majority of the documents and transcriptions are highly technical in nature and require good comprehension and analysis for the report writing phase of the deliverable. Some of the original workshop material is generated in French and may require professional level translation. All of the reports to be submitted to the client for approval require the highest standard of quality and presentation meeting USAID branding requirements as well.
Purpose of the assignment :
To help inform the Mission’ Collaboration, Learning and Adapting and maximize quality deliverables, the Reporting Officer will:
- Produce high-quality reports of Mission learning activities through comprehensive note taking and synthesis of key take-aways and action plans.
- Design and edit reports using infographics.
- Assume final consolidation, editing and formatting of MSSP reports.
- Perform any other tasks as assigned by the CLA Advisor, the DCOP and/or the COP, based on emergency priorities.
Job Responsibilities:
- Produce high-quality reports for MSSP/USAID Mission CLA events by taking comprehensive notes in English and/or French.
- Synthesize key takeaways and action plans from meeting discussions and materials to create informative reports.
- Design visually appealing reports using infographics and other relevant visual elements to enhance understanding and engagement.
- Edit reports to ensure clarity, coherence, and alignment with SoCha and USAID standards.
- Translate notes and event-related documents from French-English and English- French.
- Transcribe verbal presentations and event recordings.
- Address edits and comments from USAID upon submission.
- Organize and manage event materials, resources, and reports in their respective folders in MSSP shared drives to ensure easy retrieval, version control and efficient collaboration.
- Perform any other tasks as assigned by the CLA Advisor, the DCOP and/or the COP, based on emergency priorities.
- Respect deadlines and maintain confidentiality of all information provided.
Deliverables:
- Reports and documents finalized in PDF including Table of Contents, Executive Summary, Content, tables, photo captions and annexes, etc. meeting MSSP and USAID final approval.
- All final deliverables are provided in electronic form.
- Approximate number of deliverables per month: 6
Qualifications:
- University degree and/or higher education in journalism, communications, languages, economics or law. A degree in an international development related field is desirable.
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience as journalist, writer, analyst, editor or publisher.
- Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
- Proven experience in data analysis, report writing, infographics, data visualization and digital design.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and Google Workspace (Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides)
- Experience in producing technical products for international audiences – experience with USAID reports preferred.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain consistency in reporting formatting and presentation.
- Fluency in both French and English, written and oral, is required.
