This position is located within the Mission Support Centre in Bukavu in the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO). The Logistics Assistant reports to the Field Logistics Operations (LogOps) Supervisor.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Logistics Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: – Classifies and files appropriately all reports, correspondences and memos to and from LogOps office. – Translates documents, letters, Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) or memos as requested by the LogOps Supervisor. – Collects weekly report activities from Integrated Services Sections (ISS); – Completes request forms and follow-up the supply and re-supply of office stationery and other sundry items; – Provides inputs on feasibility for support to clients in liaison with the Service Delivery and SCM Section to the LogOps Supervisor; – Participates in logistics recce missions and drafts recce reports as required; – Liaises with local authorities on land occupied by MONUSCO in Bukavu Municipality. – Receives weekly reports from ISS sections, draft the weekly logistics reports and submit it to LogOps Supervisor for review; – Coordinates and monitors logistics support for all military contingent rotations through Bukavu from all client missions; – If required, assists MONUSCO Staff and authorized non-MONUSCO personnel (Local Authorities, NGOs, etc.) during evacuation periods; – Reviews the rotation schedule of client missions and assigns transit camp availability accordingly with ES and LSS for catering requirements provision; – Performs any other duties as and when assigned by Log Ops Supervisor.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Job – Specific Qualification

A valid national driver’s license is required. Certificate of any course related to Administration/Logistics is desirable.

Work Experience

At least 5 years of progressive experience in Logistics is required. Proficiency in encoding of data and in the use of MS office applications (Excel, World, Power point) is required. Prior Logistics experience in a United Nations common system field operation is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in French is required; and knowledge of English is desirable.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

This job opening is to identify the most qualified candidate for the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO). Candidates endorsed by the FCRB but not selected will be placed on the LOGISTICS ASSISTANT – G5 roster. The entire assessment process takes an average of six months; all applicants will be notified in writing of the outcome of their application (whether successful or unsuccessful) within 14 days of the conclusion of the process. Successful candidates will be placed on the roster and subsequently will be invited to apply for field mission vacancies open only to roster members. Roster membership does not guarantee selection. Appointment or assignment against this position is for an initial period of one year. The appointment or assignment and renewal thereof are subject to the availability of the post or funds, budgetary approval or extension of the mandate.
