This position is located in the Joint Mission Analysis Centre of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) in Bunia. The incumbent will report to the Deputy Chief, Joint Mission Analysis Centre.
Responsibilities
Within the limits of delegated authority, the Information Analyst will be responsible for performing the following duties: • Produce accurate and timely integrated JMAC analytical products and briefings, in coordination with other Mission components (peacekeeping-intelligence community) and sources, which support decision-making. • Manage (research, acquiring, evaluation, coordination, and analysis) of information as a basis for enhanced planning and decision-making by the Senior Mission Leadership. • Maintain understanding of developments/events relevant for the implementation of the Mission mandate through monitoring and acquiring of data/information from multiple sources, including UN Mission civilian, military components, UN Country Team, national military/civilian authorities, NGOs, media and other key stakeholders. • Classify, manage, store and transfer information by using JMAC information management processes and systems. • Organize, analyze and synthesize information for the identification of trends, production of forecasts, scenarios, and assessments. • Assist in the development and coordination of JMAC tools, such as Information Requirements (IRs), in consultation with the peacekeeping-intelligence community. • Contribute to effective working relationships within the JMAC and other UN Mission components, the UNCT and relevant external actors and organizations; and • Provide briefings to the Mission Leadership Team, senior UN staff and visiting delegations and represent the JMAC in meetings as required. • Perform other duties as required.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in Political Science, Political Economy, International Relations, International Law, Public Administration, or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in intelligence or information analysis, political science, international relations, foreign relations, development, security (military or police) or related field is required. Experience in field research in hardship conditions, building and maintaining a reliable network of multidisciplinary sources, including civil society, authorities and state- and non-state armed actors, is required. Excellent skills and proven experience in conflict and network analysis and drafting of analytical products under tight deadlines are required. Experience in the geographical area of operations is required. Experience briefing senior staff in the field of intelligence, political, and/or security analysis is desirable. Experience in working in a diverse analytical team, such as a Joint Mission Analysis Centre or equivalent in a conflict or post-conflict situation is desirable. Experience in OSINT and data driven- and geospatial analysis is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English and French is required.
