1. À propos de l’AWF
African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) est une organisation internationale de conservation créée en 1961. En collaboration avec les populations africaines, AWF s’efforce de garantir la pérennité de la faune et des terres sauvages d’Afrique. Basée à Nairobi, au Kenya, AWF dispose de bureaux locaux dans neuf pays africains (Kenya, Tanzanie, Ouganda, Cameroun, Zimbabwe, Éthiopie, République démocratique du Congo, Niger et Rwanda) et est enregistrée au Royaume-Uni, au Canada, en Suisse et en Afrique du Sud.
2. Présentation de l’organisation
African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) travaille avec les communautés du bassin du Congo afin de réduire le taux de dégradation des forêts et de perte de biodiversité et d’augmenter les possibilités de subsistance et les revenus des habitants. Ilima a été l’une des premières communautés à s’engager activement avec AWF. Les habitants ont participé à la planification de l’utilisation des terres, ont accepté de mettre fin à la chasse illégale à la viande de brousse et ont adopté des pratiques agricoles durables. Dans le cadre de son travail de conservation dans le paysage de Maringa-Lopori-Wamba et en guise d’encouragement à la communauté pour son engagement continu en faveur de la conservation, AWF a construit une école primaire à Ilima.

1. About AWF

2. Introduction
African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) has been working with communities in the Congo Basin to reduce the rate of forest degradation and biodiversity loss and to increase livelihood opportunities and incomes for residents. One of the first communities to actively engage with AWF was Ilima, with residents participating in land-use planning, agreeing to stop illegal bushmeat hunting, and embracing sustainable agricultural practices. As a part of its conservation work in the Maringa-Lopori-Wamba Landscape and as an incentive to the community for its continued commitment to conservation, AWF constructed a primary school in Ilima.
